Critic's Review
Sometimes you just feel like a burger. On a sunny Saturday afternoon, I headed up to Plantation.
The parking lot for this center is a disaster; clearly designed by a sadistic chimp. Twisting, turning. Finally I got to the place.
Pretty typical fast casual. Not as plasticky as McDonalds. Not as nice as Shake Shack. You order at a fast food-like counter.
It's not clear from the menu if you can order the regular "CharBurgers" with the sourdough bread, but you can. I didn't want the "Santa Barbara". I don't want tasteless avocados on my food.
The combos here are downright insulting; you save a whopping 4 cents by getting the fries and the drink; so I skipped the unwanted carbs. You get a cup and a beeper and you hit the beverage center, which includes both green and black iced tea.
They even have fresh lemons and limes.
You find a table and you sit and wait. With the beeper system, you still have to fetch your own food, so what is so different about this than the beeperless system?
The burger came out in 9 minutes. Seemed like a long time to me considering there were only a handful of customers.
One of my peeves against burgers in general is that hamburger buns are garbage bread. This was something different.
The "double" is kind of deceiving; the patties are quite small. On the surface, it looks like a typical fast food burger.
The meat itself was quite ordinary and not particularly tasty. But there was something about the overall sandwich. Good pickles, mayo, ripe tomatos. Cheese and onions well dispersed.
Maybe I was just hungry, but this was one of the better burgers I've had in recent memory. Maybe it was because there wasn't a cardboard-like bun to ruin it?
Conclusion
The flame broiled aspect of the burgers drew me in; this place is kind of faster food Char Hut, without the big burgers. This place would be a lot better if they had a beefier burger than the 2 fast food patties. But the sourdough bread and the tasty ingredients made this an enjoyable experience.
