Critic's Review
I didn't plan to have Cuban food today, but the place I was going to stops serving at 3pm and I was running late, so I turned onto Griffin and headed West. Havana's is on the corner of Griffin and Pine Island, in the corner of a strip mall. It looks very fast food from the outside, but it's nice than expected inside. A combination of black vinyl and steel; the big windows let in a bit too much light during the day, but I suspect the place has a sophisticated look at night.
Service is very matter of fact; they read off the specials but I'm having Ropa Vieja. Ice tea is served with a lime, and pressed garlic bread comes with the meal.
The music is authentic latin big band; Tu Carinito and El Preso fill the air. It reminds me a bit of Bongos. One good thing about Ropa Vieja is that they just need to spoon it out from a big pot in the kitchen; it comes out in 5 minutes.
Clearly a lunch portion; no tremendous bargain at $8.99 but not overpriced either. The Ropa was good, not great. A typical Cuban lunch.
A nice restaurant, professional service and good Cuban food. Enough said.
