Critic's Review

I was going to go to the Waffle House in Davie today, but it was too crowded and I changed my mind. Since I was already in Davie, I decided to try the Flashback Diner, which is about the only other place I could get breakfast at 11:45.

The Flashback was pretty crowded also, but usually that doesn't matter too much in a diner once you settle into a booth. The bad news is that this place has a lot of open tables and not that many booths. The hostess gave me one of those looks when she offered up the counter and I declined, but thats just the way it goes sometimes. The seating in the small dining area I was in was cramped and not very private; made worse by the family of 5 seated next to me at a table for 4.

My server was pretty slow and disorganized and it took her a while to get the coffee. She took my order and the food came out pretty quickly.

Flashback Diner Eggs

The eggs weren't actually over-easy; they put a cover on the pan, which is a bit different but not completely unacceptable. It shows a lack of confidence in the kitchen. The food was actually the only thing I liked about the place. The potatoes were only seasoned with a bit of paprika and needed some work, but thats more usually the case than not.

The service was the big issue here. I wasn't offered a refill on my coffee until I asked for the check, which is too late. Making matters worse is that my server made the rounds with the pot and neglected to come to my table, and she also serviced the table next to mine several times with my cup empty without bothering to look. This kind of service requires stiffing the server altogether. There's no excuse for being ignored in a diner.

In summary, I didn't like the place itself in terms of comfort, the service was bad and the food was pretty good. But I couldn't wait to get out of there, which is never a good sign.
