Critic's Review
There are a million frozen yogurt places, and Menchie's is one of them. They're all franchises, which means that the people running them may or may not know anything about running a business; so it can be a crap shoot in terms of how well any particular one of them is run.
This place seems to be aimed at kids; there was a steady stream of moms and kids rolling through, and there are some blackboards and things inside for the kids to play with while here.
They're mostly copycat operations; if you've been to Pinkberry or Yogurtland or Red Mango you know what you're getting here. Menchies has all sorts of flavored yogurts like apple pie and coconut; but I'm a vanilla and chocolate kind of guy.
You grab a cup and serve yourself; the yogurt reminded me of the self serve taps at American Social.
They have a lot more stuff at Menchie's than some of the others; a lot of contrived candies, nuts and fruit.
I went with what I thought were dark chocolate chips and M&Ms.
The dark chocolate things had filling which was disappointing, so that turned out to be a mistake. The yogurt was, well yogurt. The chocolate was particularly good; the vanilla was pretty ordinary; not as good as Red Mango.
They charge .49 an ounce, which is over $13 / pound, which seems like a lot considering I could get a porterhouse for that price. This was $3.49, which didn't seem like too much. I guess you don't think about how much it weighs when you get a cup of ice cream or yogurt.
