Critic's Review
While I was on my way to someplace else, I noticed that there weren't any cars at Don Lolo's. The last time I planned to come here, the place was packed at 2:30. So I made a U-turn and went inside.
The place is one small room, with a hostess stand/cash register at the door.
There's a girl who does it all; takes phone orders, greets customers, takes your order and runs the food out. The big sign says "Latin Cuisine", but another says "Mexican and Cuban". You get chips and salsa instead of cuban bread here. No lemon, and no Splenda. Typical Latin mid-range experience.
The salsa was pretty good. I either like salsa or I don't, and I liked this. The lunch prices are about 1/3 less than the dinner menu; I went for the Skirt Steak with Chimichurri sauce for $8.95.
The atmosphere in the place is purely Latin, with Spanish language music playing and no TV, which is actually a plus in a place like this. There were constantly people waiting for take-out.
The food didn't take long.
Obviously not a great piece of meat; it looked pretty sad actually. Lot's of rice and good,well-seasoned cuban black beans. The Chimichurri was kind of dry; I've never gotten it like this; it's like they were trying to save on oil or something.
I spotted an oil and vinegar setup and fixed it up with some oil; not exactly EVOO but passable.
It wasn't the crazy-good garlicky stuff you get as El Tamarindo or Angus Steakhouse, but it added enough to the meat to make it a decent lunch.
