Whenever I see a Sub shop getting ridiculously raving reviews on the online review sites I get a bit suspicious. After all, its a sandwich; there's only so much you can do with bread and cold cuts. So I took a bit of a detour on my way back from Delray and ordered up an Italian sub. The 6" sub is $6.50 and the 10" is $8.25 so it makes no sense to order a 6". If you're a light eater you can just cut it in half and get 2 lunches out of it. I ordered it the way I always order an Italian Sub; Everything with banana peppers on the side. I took a seat and waited. (btw, the store was empty at 5pm so I guess the big crowds I heard about are at other times).
Inside, the place looks like a typical New York Deli.
They just made the sub; they didn't ask me if I wanted this or that on the sub the way most places do. The sub was ready in a reasonable amount of time and I was off.
When I unwrapped the sub I noticed that it was very neat. Very compact and not as messy as other subs I'd gotten.
V & S Deli Italian Sub
But then I figured out why. There was no mayo, mustard or pickles on the sandwich. What the F... Now black olives are at 50/50 deal, but no mustard? No pickles?
It was a decent sandwich, but I ended up putting some mayo and mustard that I had. But I really like the pickles. All of those flavors are what make a really loaded Italian Sub really pop. Maybe this is an "authentic" Italian sub. But when I'm in Florida and I ask for it loaded I expect to get everything. I at least expect them to ask me what I want; particularly when I ask for "everything". It's like they don't know they're in Boca Raton or something.
