Critic's Review
Just west of the middle of nowhere, there's GG's of New York. Established in 1976, they've been at the same location since. In an area of town where you'd expect to see a strip club rather than an Italian Restaurant, GG's serves up traditional Italian food and pizza.
I wanted to try someplace new and my plan to go to Boca hadn't worked out, so I thought of GG's. The truth is, GG's is just about as far as Boca. Although it's just off W. Commercial, its about 4 miles off of 95. So from Downtown it takes just as long as going to Boca.
The restaurant itself looks like it hasn't been redecorated since 1976; it's painted with the Italian flag colors and the tables are covered with red and white checkered vinyl tablecloths. Their "waiting room" is a line of chairs in an open foyer; the kitchen is in the middle of the restaurant. I was somewhat amused as the hosted walked my pizza around to her little "booth" to hand it to me, when she could have just given it to me directly.
Note that they have expired coupons on their web site that they honored; ask on the phone before you order and you'll be able to get a 16" pizza for $10 on Sun, Monday or Tuesday.
As for the pizza, it was a pretty good pie. They got the crust just right, and there was a nice layer of cheese. Considering that they charge $1.50 for a half item they could have been a bit more generous with the sausage, but overall this is a 4 star pizza in Fort Lauderdale. For the price of $12.14 it's a pretty good deal if you live nearby.
