Critic's Review
Quietly, the Greek Wave has Closed. It's now a clothing outlet. So much for reasonably priced places to eat at the beach.
Review 1/15/15
I needed to someplace close today, so it was time to try Greek Wave. I assume that the "Wave" refers to the fact that it's on Las Olas, which of course means "The Waves". This place is just a remodel of the previous occupant, Taco Beach.
They've replaced the stools with orange chairs, painted the bricks white and have a different but similar computer monitor/TV based menu system. The table remain; and while they're attractive and contemporary, they're very fast foodish; more Chipotle than any sort of dine-in restaurant. This is a place you can grab a snack, but not a place a group can come for a meal.
I wanted a greek salad with chicken; you can add chicken to a $7.95 salad for $4. They also have platters which include a greek salad and fries and bread for $11.95; the same price. I didn't want the fries, so I asked for extra salad. I figured that might result in more and better chicken than the Salad + chicken option.
When I got home and unpacked the bag, it seemed like a good amount of food for $11.95. I'd get 2 lunches out of this.
The salad was good, but no green peppers. Lot's of feta. This was much better than getting a load of unwanted fries.
There was a good amount of chicken; I think this is more than I'd get by adding chicken to a salad. The small pieces of chicken were very flavorful, but the bigger chunks were kind of dry. The marinade didn't penetrate much past the surface.
I'd say I ate a bit more than half of this for lunch.
The Tzatziki didn't fit anything here. I'm not eating bread, so I tossed the pita.
The only real negative was they the sprinkled everything with dry spices, which isn't very pleasant. Cooking with oregano is better than putting it on afterwards.
Conclusion
Given your other choices at the Beach, this is one of the more affordable options. It's more take out than sit in, and there's no outdoor seating, yet. It's better than Taco Beach was. At about the same price.
