Critic's Review
Another Five Guys has opened in Fort Lauderdale, this one in the northwest corner of Fort Lauderdale East. From the outside it looks pretty regular, but it's a tight layout inside. There aren't a lot of chairs, and the place was just a zoo. It wasn't all that crowded, but it's a pretty small space. I'm not sure I'd want to eat in this place.
I'd only gotten the "little" cheeseburger, but today I was getting the regular sized one. You still can't get it cooked to order; I ordered it with the works. I also wanted to try the cajun fries. It took a while for them to make it; I think the cajun fries were the hold up. They wrap up the burger and put it in a bag, and then toss the fries on top. I ordered the small fries and I can't see any reason to get a large, because they gave me a ridiculous amount. There were more in the bag than in the picture and I ate a bunch of them on the drive home.
The fries were pretty good; a bit spicy and not too salty. You don't need any ketchup with them; they're just fine on their own.
I was surprised at how large the burger was. Double patties, gobs of cheese; with the works, it's as big a burger you get at your local burger gastropub. Hard to believe that this baby is only $5.29. It's not as good as a burger you get at a restaurant, but it's better than I thought. It really makes no sense to get the "little" burger. You get twice as much for an extra $1 with the full size burger.
The tomatoes weren't ripe, which is what I expect from places like this.
