Bongos Opens at the Hard Rock

Last January it was announced that Gloria and Emilio Estefan would be opening a Bongos Night Club / Restaurant at the Hard Rock entertainment complex in the Summer. After some delays that are typical here in South Florida, Bongos opened last night with a private party for friends, media and families that illustrated the club's potential to provide a sophisticated environment for good food, good music and a hip-shaking good time.

The entire Hard Rock Paradise complex was alive with music as a solo guitarist played throughout the evening at the center of the mall.

While there was no actual red carpet, celebrity row was well attended. Frankly, with the exception of Emilio Estefan I didn't know who any of the celebrities were. I guess I'm just not tuned into the Latino cultural scene.

There was entertainment provided for the celebrity watchers; a preview of things to come inside.

There was a table set up at the front door where invitees where given either gold or purple wristbands; Purple band were allowed in the Sky Lounge where the celebrities had their own party. Regular folks and low-end publications crowded into the main dining room, which is a big room with high ceilings, a massive chandelier and a big raised stage over an indoor/outdoor bar.

In the rear of the room is a raised VIP area, with white leather chairs and tables. On one end of the room are big mirrors; and on the other end is an impressive huge rotisserie where meats are being flame broiled right before your eyes.

The party itself was first class all the way. There was a pretty large crowd, but the butler service flowed continuously with servers bringing out Champagne, Mojitos and all sorts of hors d'oeuvres from ceviche to succulent ribs. Even as the crowd was winding down; desserts continued to come out. Flans, chocolate filled tarts. If there's one thing that's clear; the food at Bongos is going to be very rich and decadent.

Once the crowd began to thin, the dance floor opened up and the alcohol took control.

And there's live music too. Here's a sample.
