Critic's Review

I had some business in Pompano not far from the Promenade, so I wanted to check out Ethos; this place has been on my radar for awhile. I was down here once before and there was no parking, anywhere, so I went somewhere else.

There was a spot right near the place; after a perfect parallel park I noticed the sign; no wonder there were so many open spots.

Discriminatory Parking Sign

This is what happens when women and girly men run things. Good grief. Luckily there was another spot a little ways down, although my parking technique wasn't as good the second time.

They have a small, open patio and it was a perfect 75 degree day. The hostess gave me a choice of the bar or a high top; I asked for something outside. Inside they have a small bar and the obligatory white, simple furniture that all new Greek places seem to have.

They don't have full sun shading here, so at 2pm I had to position the table so that the umbrella blocked the sun. The girls who came just after me didn't fare so well.

Ethos Outside Patio

Notice that the Umbrellas say "Mythos", which made me do a double take more than once on the name of the place. A place named Mythos closed earlier this year in Coral Springs; I don't see that the owners are related in any way.

I ordered an iced tea, which some with some unmarked sweetener. My server mumbled something and I didn't pay attention; later realizing that I didn't know which was the plain sugar.

Ethos Iced Tea

As it turns out, Red is regular sugar, tan is raw, and blue is the poison. My server also should have mentioned that the tea was flavored.

I thought about ordering the lamb chops, but decided to go with the grilled salmon platter instead ($15.00).

Music on the patio was very un-Greek like, with Dualbox, "Kiss You", and "Enter Sandman" followed by Nirvana's "Breed". One thing unique here was that there was no hummus offered; usually Greek sit-down restaurants offer bread and hummus while you wait for your food.

The food came out in about 10 minutes; a nice looking platter.

Ethos Salmon Lunch Platter

This was nicely done; the salmon was done just right; they left a little skin on which was easily removed. The potatoes were the only loser on the plate; they were supposedly rosemary potatoes but they didn't taste like much. The rice was interesting and there was a nice glob of feta cheese on the salad. The yogurt sauce paired nicely with the salmon; All in all one of the better lunch plates I've gotten at a Greek place.

This might have been perfect had it not been for the bees; I was sitting next to a bed with some plants and there were multiple bees flying around. Every once in a while one would come over and hover over my plate. I actually jumped out of my seat a few times.

Conclusion

Ethos is a pretty nice place. A bit pricey for a mall restaurant, but the quality of food was better than most. Service was fine; nothing good or bad about it. Given your other choices in The Promenade; this is probably one of the better ones.

Mythos is a Greek beer.
