Critic's Review
When I walked into Lito's "Surf and Turf", I was surprised; from the outside it looks a lot nicer. It reminded me of an old diner; it was also smaller than I expected for a corner store.
I stood in the door and no-one acknowledged me; I started walking towards the booths and someone said hello "Can I just sit anywhere"; and so it was.
There were menus on the table, so I started to go through it. After about 5 minutes someone came down and put a lunch menu in front of me, and I ordered an iced tea. I almost ordered a soup and sandwich with the chicken salad, but I was afraid of what they might put in the sandwich.
I went with a cup of conch chowder and a wedge salad from the regular menu.
The place reminded me a little of the Quarterdeck in Dania Beach. They have a bar up front where the staff hangs out. They have 70s music playing; Doobie Brothers, Elton John, Skynyrd, Fleetwood Mac. Not bad. The soup came out in an actual cup.
This is the stuff you used to get in the big old log cabin restaurants; it was well seasoned and overall not bad. Not a very good portion for $4.99. This should have been maybe $3.50.
When I was done, the salad came out. It had a small drizzle of dressing and I asked for more.
The picture is a bit deceptive; there was a lack of stuff on this salad. A big head of lettuce, but very little bacon, no onions and small amounts of cucumber and tomato also. It was more like a big iceberg salad. Not a bad thing, but some red onions would have improved it substantially.
My server didn't really check on me; I'm not sure I had a specific server. It's kind of an odd place; like one of those old places that been run by the same family for 40 years.
Conclusion
You'd think a place named "Turf and Surf" would be some sort of steakhouse, but this is is nothing like that. The odd furniture creates a makeshift atmosphere, and the food isn't cheap enough to allow me to recommend the place.
