Critic's Review
Tramonti is a fine Italian restaurant located in the heart of the strip on Atlantic Avenue. They have a nice bar inside, a large dining room and plenty of tables on the sidewalk. They serve lunch in season with a smaller menu than the extensive menu available for dinner.
On a beautiful Saturday afternoon the patio was about half full and we scored a table tucked against the glass door. They have a smaller menu for lunch, but its still fairly extensive. I ordered an iced tea and it took us a while to decide what we wanted. While we pondered, some complimentary bruschetta was dropped on the table.
A variation from the usual fresh version; this was tomatoes, peppers, basil and onions that has been cooked almost to a paste; very sweet and delicious.
My companion decided on the Pollo alla Griglia (chicken palliard) with arugula and spanish olives. When it arrived, I had to do a double take on it; I didn't know she had ordered a salad. But under the leafy mass was a big chicken cutlet. From the menu description I wouldn't have guessed that it was a salad.
I had the fresh squid (calamari) which was served in a tomato sauce over angel hair pasta. I thought the menu had said it was a spicy tomato sauce, but I can't recall. The menu they have on their web site was not the menu we had for lunch so I can't be certain.
The sauce was not spicy; it was very mild. The squid was tender and it was a large portion for $12. I ended up taking at least half of it home.
Tramonti is a prime location and on a beautiful day its a great place for lunch or dinner. The dining room and bar inside are also quite nice. The food is above average and the service is professional. Its one of several solid Italian choices on the Atlantic Ave strip.
