Critic's Review

The Original Pancake House is a South Florida chain of restaurants similar in concept to IHOP except most of them close at 2pm during the week. This particular location is opened until 8pm, so instead of lunch I decided to do a late breakfast.

This place has new cushions in their booths; they seem a bit high to me but it wasn't uncomfortable. It's a clean place; for a diner.

I'd read some reviews that complained about the service, but the service I received was find. It was nice to be greeted by a young blonde rather than a crusty old diner veteran. I had coffee within a minute and decided on the Corned Beef Hash. I've been afraid to order this before, but I felt adventurous.

The serve it in a funky dish that didn't work for me; once I dumped it onto the plate I could break the egg yolks and let them flow into the lean corned beef. This is really good corned beef; nice and lean, just enough potato squares. The really fatty stuff you get in a can has a lot more flavor but you just feel like you're eating a lot of fat. This tastes more like good corned beef; which is just what it is.

I've also had the Spanish omelet in this place, and while its the closest to what I want in a spanish omelet, its really not spicy at all so it fails to serve its purpose. Its more like a mushroom omelet with tomato sauce. Its a massive portion, and not bad, but it would benefit from some cayenne pepper or spanish chorizo.

This is a comfortable place (for a diner), with good food and good service. Enough said.
