More Propaganda in Fort Lauderdale

I got an email from the Riverwalk Trust touting an "award" that the City had "won" regarding their green initiatives. You know, the one where they're spending Millions in taxpayer dollars to rip up the streets to put in bike paths that nobody wants. This seemed a bit fishy to me, since there are only like 50 people who want these bike paths, and it has to be one of the biggest wastes of money you can think of. So I did a bit of research.

The award, the Smart Growth Excellence Award, seems completely bogus.

Bogus Award

The award is given by an organization that calls themselves the "Smart Growth Partnership", which is obviously designed to be confused with the national Smart Growth organization. The owner of the Smart Growth Partnership (and their website) is Gloria Katz, a former Fort Lauderdale Commissioner who sits on the Fort Lauderdale "Visionary" committee. So Katz is effectively giving herself an award for her great work; nobody else is going to give the City an award, so we just give the awards to ourselves to justify massive spending on projects that nobody wants. One of the partners of "Smart Growth Partnerships" is Tindale Oliver, who massively profits from convincing Cities to move forward with these ridiculous Green projects.

Stealing Public Money

The people at the Riverwalk Trust know all of these players, so they are an accessory in this scheme. I suspect that just about all of the "awards" that the city gets are given by bogus organizations that are put together for the purpose of propaganda. The idea that the Visitor's Bureau could win an award for the garbage work they're doing (did you see the bikini on the ice block campaign?) is too impossible to consider.

Governments are corrupt. We know this. The problem with Fort Lauderdale is that they treat the citizens like a bunch of morons. Like we don't know that all of these organizations are all the same bunch of old ladies wearing different hats?

My view is that they are stealing our money, which we can't do much about since the bozos who live here voted the people running the city into power. No need to pretend you're doing a great job. Please don't insult those of us who don't have their heads buried at the sandy beach.

Hello, I agree that there is rampant corruption in this city, but you can't say that there are only 50 people advocating for bike lanes. This city desperately needs protected paths and routes for bicycle commuters, pleasure riders and tourists.

There aren't enough "commuters, pleasure riders and tourists" to justify losing 100s of parking spaces and spending millions to narrow our roads. Its bad government; the same bunch of fools who wanted to market Fort Lauderdale as a gay city. They're ruining the city, frankly.
