Critic's Review

I felt like some Cuban food, and I considered going to several places further away, as I've done everything in Fort Lauderdale. I've been to most of the Las Vegas chain restaurants, but this is a relatively new one. It's just south of Sterling on University, Davie really, so it's not that far from downtown.

The door in the front of the building is not the entrance, you have to go to the side where they have some nice landscaping.

Las Vegas Cuban University Entrance

Upon entry, I realized that this wasn't like their other locations. Most of them are just big rooms with tables and a screeching tube TV in the corner; but this one is about stone and glass. Several distinct rooms. A bar up front. Not many people, but it was after 2pm.

They also have a lot of booths, which are nicer than sitting at a table in the middle of a big room. LIke a real restaurant.

Bread it included with your meal. My server initially delivered my iced tea to another table; she was overly apologetic about it. Just bring me another one. No harm done.

Las Vegas Pines Bread and Tea with Lime

No lemon at Las Vegas. Pretty stubborn if you ask me. With 13 locations, it's time for them to get that they're in America and American's like lemon in their iced tea.

I ordered Ropa Vieja, because that's what I usually order when I'm not having a Skirt Steak. They're getting $20 for a skirt, which seems like too much. The "baby" is on special on Mondays, but $12.95 for a half a steak doesn't seem like a good deal. The ropa, which is also steak (probably flank steak), is $11.95 for a generous portion.

The Ropa is also pre-made, so it comes out right away

Some stuff in all of the restaurants. It's a little under seasoned (more garlic please), but certainly passable. Put it all together and it's a solid lunch for $12. $1.95 for bottomless tea; which is 4x as much as I got at Shake Shack for $2.25.

Our the door in 30 minutes, and I wasn't rushed at all.

Conclusion

All of the Las Vegas Cuban Cuisine chain stores offer a good value and fast service, particularly if you order something that's sitting in a big pot in the back. This location is a bit nicer than some of the others.
