Critic's Review
In a part of town where getting out of your car is a bit risky, there's a new pizza place. Two guys named Juan and Raul have combined to bring downtown Fort Lauderdale what appears on the surface to be a pretty standard "NY Style" pizzeria.
The first problem is that the place is really in a bad spot. There's an old drunk out front who struggles to light a cigarette. There's a convenience store next door which seems to be a favorite for local boat workers to pick up a beer after work. And inside there's a counter with some pretty creepy clientele. No matter if the pizza is good. They have 16" pies here; I ordered half sausage for a change of pace.
The pie was pretty bad; bad sausage, cut into 12 slices; a real loser. My review was so bad that they contacted us and said that they had a new pizzamaker, and they invited me to try it again, au gratis. I took them up on it. On the surface, the pizza appeared better.
It still didn't remind me of a real NY pizza, but the proof is in the taste. This pizza was definitely better than the first. The sausage was good and they have pretty good sauce, but the crust was too thick and chewy. Just not good enough to make my recommended list.
