Christmas on Las Olas 2011

Christmas on Las Olas was last night and it was so crowded that I wonder if it's really worth it if you don't have young kids. You literally couldn't walk down the street; I gave up trying to get to East Las Olas before I made it SE 8th. I just decided it wasn't worth it and I backtracked to YOLO where the big tree and the kids rides where. It wasn't too crowded there, but they also didn't have an extra bartender working, and the girls were just overmatched. It took them 10 minutes to tell me that they were out of what I usually drink, so I just headed over to Big City Tavern. I stopped in at Rare for a few seconds; even with the streets full of people, Rare was dead, with 70s disco music cranking away and scaring off anyone with a brain. I wonder if they know that Gloria Gaynor drives away the kind of people who hang out on Las Olas?

Big City Tavern was in Prime form, a reminder of how it used to be before YOLO took away the crowd. With Jimmy, Cindy, Bryan, Danielle and Issac behind the bar, it was like a blast from the past. The place was packed with tail; women always seem to look better when they're wearing a little Santa cap.

Once all of the kids went home, after 10pm, the street was less crowded and the crowd more adult-friendly. I hit the Golden Lyon, who just added a nice Chianti to their wine-by-the-glass choices, where there's always an older laid-back crowd. A fun Tuesday for sure, although I have to say that I have a bit of trouble getting into the Christmas spirit in November.
