Critic's Review
The most interesting thing about the Jukebox Diner is that it's the former location of the Sunfish Grill; a small storefront restaurant with Tony Sindaco at the helm that wowed the critics at the turn of the century. The Jukebox is a 50s themed 'diner', which plastic booths and aluminum tables and chairs.
The parking lot has been under construction for a year (it seems) and there are still cement mixers and barricades in the lot. Not as bad as it was a couple of months ago.
I was looking for a late breakfast and had some other business in the area, so I stopped in. The menu seems pretty standard; one difference is that they had a 3 egg option for about 40 cents more, so I went for 3 eggs over easy, sausage, home fries and rye toast.
It all stated normally, with a cup of coffee in a decent sized cup.
The music was odd; 3 Bob Marley followed by 3 Johnny Mathis. Lame stuff. The do have a working Jukebox. When the eggs came out, my spirits dropped considerably.
The emotions running through me ranged from utter confusion to disgust. What the hell was this? The eggs weren't cooked over easy, and what is that, a roasted potato? And 1 sausage link. Good Grief. My Dad could cook better than this, and believe me, my Dad couldn't cook.
Of course eggs don't really taste much different if they're made properly over easy or if they're steamed in an 8" skillet with a lid, and the sausage was a good sausage. If it wasn't on a purple plastic plate, they gave me 2 links and there were actual home fries, this wouldn't have been bad. I've never gotten 1 link before, except when it's a bratwurst or something.
Ok, my mistake for trying a place with yellow plastic booths.
