Critic's Review
Longhorn steakhouse is owned by Darden; the same company that owns Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Seasons 52 and the Capital Grille. It's a lower end brand, in the same genre as Outback.
The restaurants are pretty nice; nicer than the Outback I think, but not very well maintained. The tables here were badly in need of refinishing. Overall, it feels like a restaurant.
The service level here is very low; there's a bunch of kids that seem to run the place. It's the kind of place you go to get a cheap steak dinner. Dinners come with "all you can eat" bread, a salad and a side. A standard salad with blue cheese dressing was loaded with croutons and additional shredded cheese; it also had a big onion chunk in it; clearly whoever makes the salad is more concerned with slapping them together than they are about the culinary experience.
The porterhouse dinner, with salad, bread and green beans, it only $24.95 here, so I figured I'd order the big boy and take half of the strip home for breakfast. It sounds bigger than it is, but it's still a good value for the price.
As porterhouses go, this one was mediocre. Just grilled with no apparent seasoning; it's just a big piece of protein. With unlimited iced tea for $2.50, it's OK food when you feel like a big meal and you don't feel like dropping $75. per person. But it doesn't compare to places like Ruth's Chris in any way.
