Looking for a good place to take a date? In a town where most places are built for the Flip Flop and Shorts crowd, it can be hard to find a place for a romantic date. Romance takes different forms for different people, so there is no definitive answer to the "Most Romantic Restaurant" question. I can, however, recommend some places that are good places for a romantic date; whether it's your first date, Valentine's day or your 40th wedding anniversary.
My criteria is not just a romantic setting. Bad food or gruff service can ruin a date, so I'm taking those things into account.
Cafe Seville
Looking for a small, intimate place with great food? Cafe Seville is a great place for a date; it's dark, the service is professional and the food is as good as it gets in this town.
Cafe Vico
As Italian restaurants go, Cafe Vico gets my vote for Most Romantic. While many may recommend Casa D'Angelo, the stuffy service there can grate on my nerves. Vico's is smaller, quieter and it just exudes romance.
Sundy House
If you're up towards Delray Beach, Sundy House is the kind of place that women love. It's a bit out of the way and the food is mediocre, but it has an old world charm to it. And you won't have to worry about a group of loud guys ruining your evening.
Cafe De Paris
On Las Olas, the Cafe De Paris is a delightful getaway from the main drag. When they close the doors and the piano music starts, it's like you're transformed to a faraway place. The food can be hit or miss, but it's easily the most romantic spot on Las Olas.
Via Luna (at the Ritz Carleton)
At the beach, the restaurant in the Ritz Carleton is one of the few places on the beach for a quiet, fancy dinner. On a nice night, the outdoor patio is lovely as well. Good food and service, but not a place for the faint of wallet.
Serafina
If you're looking for waterfront dining, Serafina is a little house on a canal that is one of the best places on a warm, calm evening. Italian cuisine and professional service make the experience a great choice for a date.
Capital Grille, Boca Raton
Romance and Boca don't seem to go too well together to me, but for a nice place with decent food in the middle of Mall central; the Capital Grille is a good choice. They have a lot of booths in their nice dining room. An overpriced chain to some; it's at the high end of chains and it beats out Morton's by a nose.
Market 17
Market 17 defines the special occasion venue; with no TVs it's a quiet place with lots of gimmicks (like dining in the dark and tasting menus) that lends itself to something completely different. Not a place for a big gouging meal and it will cost you; but the women-friendly concepts here make it something special for Her. They've recently retooled their menu and they have a new chef; we haven't tried it since.
Cafe Vienna
Up in Davie, Cafe Vienna offers an intimate setting and a menu that is quite unusual for this area. It's sort of a French Bistro; a small house in the middle of a shopping center.
