Charm City Burger Company won the burger battle last night, and since we knew that they had pretty good burgers (but usually aren't willing to burn $5 in gas getting to a dump in Deerfield Beach to get one), what did we learn? Hopefully all had a good time. Apparently Charm City got a perfect 10 score from 2 judges which also won it the "Burger Nirvana" award; but which 2 judges? The CEOs wife? A chef? Who knows?
This year's controversy is that the person who counted the ballots is a big Charm City fan who also runs a website on which Charm City advertises. Do we really care?
ROK:BRGR won the "People's Choice Award", which means that they did a better job of organizing their friends than other venues did. ROK is always the bride's maid and never the bride. The People's Choice is the definition of bias, as people are more likely to "vote" for a place where they work or hang out than they are to make an objective choice about the food. I'm sure that New Times will write it up like ROK actually won something that has more impact than winning the Miss Congeniality award at the MIss America Contest. The big, lovable loser. And ROK has yet another parchment for their wall.
Has ROK ever WON an award not handed out by New Times? I can't think of one.
And of course, Rosie's Bar and Grill, another venue that had no business even being included in the contest, was given an award. After all, it wouldn't feel right if they didn't give something to a gay bar.
