Critic's Review
It's Memorial day and there's no Barbecuing at the condo so I figured I'd seek out some BBQ. I liked Scruby's up in Davie but i didn't want to go there again; it was a nice day for a drive so I headed up to the other Scruby's in Pembroke Pines. Hollywood really. Not too far out.
This is an old place is an old building that just screams for some updating. The people who work here are equally mundane. It almost seemed like they weren't open. But they were.
I ordered the combo, which comes with cole slaw, baked beans, garlic bread and your choice of potato. I went for the sweet potato. I waited about 10 minutes.
It's a pretty good amount of food for $13.95. These places don't offer their lunch specials on Holidays, which is kind of lame. At the other Scruby's, the babybacks were great and the spare ribs not so good; here the babybacks weren't that good. They didn't seem fresh. Not quite as tender, but definitely more bland. The Spare ribs were better here; still needing sauce and not terribly meaty. But not too bad.
The beans at Scruby's are great; they don't seem like the tired old baked beans at all. They have meat bits in them and the beans are firm. The cole slaw is too watery and obviously from a massive tub. The bread isn't good enough to think about eating. The sweet potato was good.
They give you 2 sealed tubs of their own branded BBQ sauce; original and sweet. The original was pretty good. I didn't try the sweet.
Scruby's in Davie was better than this place, and also a lot busier. I'd say skip this location even if you're nearby and keep going down University to Sonny's or Shorty's.
