Kim Rothstein Sentenced to 18 Months

The wife of imprisoned Ponzi schemer Scott Rothstein was sentenced to 18 months in Federal Prison this week, as she pled guilty to hiding expensive jewelry from Federal seizure. Local Jeweler Patrick Daoud also pleaded guilty to participating in the scheme; he'll be sentenced on Feb 3. Prosecutors have recommended that Daoud receive 10 months house arrest and probation.

The wife of convicted Ponzi schemer Scott Rothstein has been sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for trying to hide $1 million in jewelry from federal agents.

A Fort Lauderdale federal judge imposed the sentence Tuesday on 39-year-old Kim Rothstein. She had faced a maximum of five years behind bars, but prosecutors asked for leniency because of her cooperation. Her defense lawyer says Scott Rothstein bears some blame for his wife's attempt to sell jewelry investigators sought to confiscate.

Kim Rothstein, her civil lawyer and a friend all pleaded guilty to conspiracy in trying to conceal the jewelry.

Rothstein was giving leniency because her testimony resulting in the conviction of 4 others. In addition the 18 months in prison; she also received 2 years probation.

Kim Rothstein filed for divorce last week; it's not clear what took her so long.

Scott Rothstein is currently serving a 50 year sentence for operation a Ponzi Scheme in downtown Fort Lauderdale.
