Critic's Review
Just days after our review on December 12, Victoria Park Diner closed it's doors for good. I noticed no cars parked there my last few times by there, and today the place is completely empty. The former Miami Subs shop is now just another empty building in Fort Lauderdale.
Review 12/14/12
As Diners go, Victoria Park diner isn't my favorite place. But it's right across from Publix, conveniently on US1. It's a converted Miami Subs shop; one of many that closed 5 years ago.
Inside, they have the diner style booths, but they don't really feel like booths. They're pretty low and you really have no privacy at all.
Service here is abysmal. As I entered, a girl yelled out "Sit anywhere". I did, but nobody brought me a menu. The girl was wiping some tables and eventually made her way down. "Would you like a menu", she asked. "It would come in handy", I replied. A server came over and I ordered some coffee, which he brought with no milk or creamers. I had to flag him down to ask for cream.
When he brought the food out, they had given me sausage patties and I had ordered links. "Oh yeah, you wanted links", as he turned away.
Elton John's "Danial" played as I waited. He re-appeared shortly.
The breakfast here is pretty consistent; the sausage are good but are never freshly cooked. The hash browns are better than the home fries.
Even though my cup was empty, I had to remind him that I needed a refill. Even though there were only 2 tables in the place, he had no concept of where I was at in my meal. It's the first time I can remember that I had to flag down a server to get my check in a diner after I'd finished eating. Usually they drop it off when you're about 2/3s done.
Drab place, OK Food, Conveniently located. About $10 with tip, so the price is right. I had lunch here once; stick to breakfast.
