Critic's Review
This place is right next to Don King Tacos; so I thought I'd kill 2 birds with 1 stone while in the area. I'd reviewed their short-lived location on US1 and wasn't very impressed.
Aside from the cashier wearing a mask, you'd hardly know there was a pandemic going on; this place looks just like it did with the previous 2 owners.
I'd gone online before I left and spotted their lunch menu; which had a 1/4 rack lunch special. I thought it was strange that it said it was served on Texas Toast; but I wanted to taste the ribs.
But on the wall, the special was "Rib Tips on Texas Toast". So sadly I thought the online description was a mistake. The only other offering for ribs was $15, and I wasn't going to do that. I asked the cashier about the 1/4 rack, and she said "Yes, you can get that".
Not much going on in this area at 3pm on a Tuesday. The lunch comes with 1 side and a drink, even though nowhere does it say you get a drink, but she gave me a cup. Of course they have no iced tea or unsweetened drinks other than water.
No special sanitizing going on here; germaphobes won't be comfortable here during busy hours.
When I got home, you can imagine my surprise when I opened the bag.
I expected 3 bones and I got 5; although 2 of them weren't very meaty. Can't complain about this for $8.99.
I hate when they just slap he sides into a container like this; I didn't like the beans at all. Too sweet, too mushy and no smoke taste. Campbell's out of a can are better than this.
Into the garbage for the beans. The ribs were dry and the bark was too thick; too much rub most likely.
The BBQ sauce was pretty good, and badly needed on the dryish ribs. I saw no point to the mustard.
Conclusion
When this place opened as Hickory Sticks a 1/2 rack was $9.95 and they were some pretty good ribs. I wouldn't pay $15 for these; these were Ok for lunch; particularly if it wasn't a mistake to give me 5 bones. But their menu isn't very appealing for lunch.
