We have the menu; absurd prices feature $23 meatless pastas; $32 for a breaded pork chop; it looks like a pretty standard menu at prices that you might find in NYC where the rent is $180/sq ft. You could make most of this stuff at home for under $3 per serving.

Does this look worth $18 to you? I'd be mad if I got this at Southport Raw Bar.

They recently raised the price on the Salmon from $29 to $35.

The trick is that you'll have plenty of room left for an overpriced dessert. What's amusing is that this is a staged photo, so it's like they're just utterly clueless about how unappealing this portion is. I don't understand why people pay $25+ for salmon on a restaurant; you could make this at home for $7 in 10 minutes without any cooking skills whatsoever. Plus this is the wrong way to serve salmon; dry grilled salmon is too dry; it needs to be either basted in fat (ie butter) or served with a creamy sauce or compound butter to pair with the fatty fish.

Canyon will be opening a sister Italian restaurant in the location previously occupied by Valentino's; why is this reminding me of the old Canyon, Il Mulino location?

Canyon was originally an Italian restaurant, La Perla, before they changed the name, so this appears to be a revival of an old concept. To me, Canyon is an old concept; the small plates concept was edgy back in 2008, but I haven't thought about going back to the place in the last decade. It's hard to get excited about yet-another Italian restaurant in Fort Lauderdale.

Updated menu; they've raised prices $3 or more on some items, because tomato sauce prices are out of control.

Not impressed so far with the food pictures from online reviews. There's a scary looking octopus; portions look way too small for the prices they're charging.

They're starting off on the wrong foot; if you own a small cafe you don't qualify for their ITB night, and if you don't have 3 single friends ladies night is out. Oh, and they add 20% BEFORE the discount, which is like having to pay sales tax on the full price of an item on sale. Bad business from the 1980s is back in Fort Lauderdale!

Do you think your server should earn a substandard wage for waiting on you? The restaurant owner is willing to take a hit to get you in the door. The company's waitstaff is more than likely just getting by. I would venture to say they probably cannot afford to eat anywhere that involves tipped service. Be grateful you have the means and they showed up to work. Overtip, and please, no special orders.

The owner of a small cafe has probably lost money the last 6 months so excluding them from the ITB is extremely arrogant and short-sighted.

I'm guessing that the person who wrote this isn't actually a "waiter", the waitstaff at a restaurant like this probably makes more than people with skilled jobs that require a brain and a degree (like teachers).

The food is only worth 1/2 price anyway; the idea that less than a 40% tip for schlepping a $13 bowl of rigatoni is "substandard" is completely amusing. I guess people working at many Italian restaurants where that is the regular price (and customers aren't getting charged $15 for a drink) are working for a substandard wage.

Nobody runs an ITB night for charity. It's a gimmick to have a full restaurant at a time that it would normally be dead. So everyone is making more money than if they were sitting around with 3 tables in the restaurant; both owners and waitstaff. Nobody is "taking a hit". It's ignorant to say so.

The bottom line is that every other restaurant in fort lauderdale can run a happy hour or ITB night without requiring double tipping, so there's' no reason to come to this one.

This isn't really Italian food; Chorizo and red curry cream? $23 for pepper and cheese pasta? It's like the easiest dish to make at home for about $1
