Description
Primadonna Predictably failed, and apparently the Canyon people opened a lounge.

We have the menu; absurd prices feature $23 meatless pastas; $32 for a breaded pork chop; it looks like a pretty standard menu at prices that you might find in NYC where the rent is $180/sq ft. You could make most of this stuff at home for under $3 per serving.
Does this look worth $18 to you? I'd be mad if I got this at Southport Raw Bar.
They recently raised the price on the Salmon from $29 to $35.
The trick is that you'll have plenty of room left for an overpriced dessert. What's amusing is that this is a staged photo, so it's like they're just utterly clueless about how unappealing this portion is. I don't understand why people pay $25+ for salmon on a restaurant; you could make this at home for $7 in 10 minutes without any cooking skills whatsoever. Plus this is the wrong way to serve salmon; dry grilled salmon is too dry; it needs to be either basted in fat (ie butter) or served with a creamy sauce or compound butter to pair with the fatty fish.

Canyon will be opening a sister Italian restaurant in the location previously occupied by Valentino's; why is this reminding me of the old Canyon, Il Mulino location?
Canyon was originally an Italian restaurant, La Perla, before they changed the name, so this appears to be a revival of an old concept. To me, Canyon is an old concept; the small plates concept was edgy back in 2008, but I haven't thought about going back to the place in the last decade. It's hard to get excited about yet-another Italian restaurant in Fort Lauderdale.
The food is only worth 1/2 price anyway; the idea that less than a 40% tip for schlepping a $13 bowl of rigatoni is "substandard" is completely amusing. I guess people working at many Italian restaurants where that is the regular price (and customers aren't getting charged $15 for a drink) are working for a substandard wage.
Nobody runs an ITB night for charity. It's a gimmick to have a full restaurant at a time that it would normally be dead. So everyone is making more money than if they were sitting around with 3 tables in the restaurant; both owners and waitstaff. Nobody is "taking a hit". It's ignorant to say so.
The bottom line is that every other restaurant in fort lauderdale can run a happy hour or ITB night without requiring double tipping, so there's' no reason to come to this one.
