Critic's Review

The "world famous" Parrot Lounge has been around forever; its the cock roach of the north end of the old strip. At first glance you'd think this place is a biker bar with the tattoo parlor next door. Its old and seedy; but its not that seedy. On the other hand, its hardly a lounge. Make no mistake about it; The Parrot Lounge is a plain old bar.

Actually, the place is a Philly bar, where you can catch the Eagles or Phillies playing, and get a decent Philly Cheesesteak also. There are a lot of regulars here, and you'll likely feel out of place if you stop in for the first time. They only care about the Phillies and the Eagles. If there is some other game on it likely won't be on when you get there. They're pretty good about putting it on, AFTER they make it clear that its a Phillies bar. And while they have the MLB package, on a Friday night there were no other baseball games on other than the Phillies.

A good word to describe this place is grimy. If you know people from Philly you might know what to expect; its not my kind of crowd.

They have a full menu here with some northern faves like steamed clams and 1/2 pound burgers. If you're in this area your choices to eat are limited. Personally I prefer Cafe Bluefish but many do enjoy the Parrot, particularly if you're from Philadelphia.

They've recently painted a mural on the side of the building that ads a little color to a part of town that really needs it.
