Critic's Review

I haven't been to a Chili's in many, many years, but I wanted to check out there newly advertised recipes and I heard that they had a pretty nice bar here. I remember that the burgers were pretty good but everything was always pretty pedestrian. That was then.

The place is a bit nicer that your typical chain restaurant; the bar has 4 new flat screen TVs that looked really good showing the olympics. Service at the bar was beyond attentive leaning towards doting.

They just started a new "Pairing" promotion, that allows you to choose an appetizer and an entry from a fairly extensive list for $9.99. I chose the chips and salsa and the hand-battered fried shrimp, which came with Fries and Spicy Cole Slaw. The chips and salsa came out first. The salsa was chunky and fresh and very good; the chips are too thin and break when you scoup. Its really a chore trying to keep from breaking the chips. You get about 8 fried shrimp; de-shelled and lightly battered. The lime-tequila dipping sauce is excellent. The fries are ok. But the real treat is the cole slaw. Its fresh cut, includes green pepper and red onion, and it possibly the best cole slaw I've ever tasted. I can't remember another time in my life when I wished there was just one more fork full when I finished. Its really that good.

They even offered a candy to finish off the meal; I passed but its just another little thing that Chili's is doing to make the experience that much nicer.

The food here is just as good as J Mark's next door, at half the price.
