Critic's Review
Pizza places in East Boca come and go, and a new place in a Publix shopping center is always a curiousity. The rent is higher in these type of strip malls, so they'd better be good if they're going to compete with established places like Big City PIzza and Nino's. I was in the area on my cheat day, so I decided to give PieZano's a try.
Inside they have a counter and a small dining room that makes it seem like a place you could go for a sit down meal. I ordered my usual; They charge $1.50 for half items so the total for a 16 inch pizza is $14.50 plus tax.
I usually take a look at the pizza before I hit the road, and from a visual standpoint, this pizza was a loser. The neatly crimped crust reminded me of pizza hut; like they made it on a machine rather than spinning it by hand. Also, if they're going to charge you a 50% premium on a half topping, they could at least cover half of the pie with what they give you and not just 3 and a half slices.
When I tasted the pizza; I can't say I liked it. No oregano, the sauce was more pungent than sweet, and there was a minimal coating of cheese. Eating this pie without any doctoring was a non-starter. I actually thought about dumping it altogether. I added some oregano and granulated garlic and re-heated it and it was better. But overall; this was a disappointment. And $14.50 is too much for what I got here.
