Critic's Review
Review 1/2/13
The Egg N You Diner claims to be a hot dog joint on their facebook page; but they don't have hot dogs on the menu. The first time I walked into this place, it was pretty crowded; I considered sitting at the counter, but the entire place is mirrored. Big mirrored walls, big mirrors behind the counter. I left; not to return for years.
I went back again on a Saturday at about 2:45. They close at 2:30 on weekends. Some "diner". Yesterday I tried again. Empty at 2:30, I knew I wasn't sitting at the counter. I looked around; there isn't one seat in the house that allows you to escape the mirrors. Everything is in a bad spot; you can get a nice booth between the bathrooms and the coffee nook.
It seemed that one woman was running the entire place; counter, cashier and waitress. Service was fine, coffee was piping hot. As usual, I contemplated many things, and then ordered my usual. The menu here is VERY basic. They have basic omelets, nothing fancy. Sandwiches but no pastrami or corned beef.
Music here generally sucked wind. Little River Band, obscure Gloria Estafan and The Spinners. The food came out pretty quickly.
They had the faux link sausage. The hash browns were freshly made but unseasoned. The toast was particularly good; just the right amount of butter.
The place is cheap, under $10 with tip. But the mirrors are creepy. It's just not a very comfortable place unless you're a hot young babe with a fresh boob job.
