Critic's Review
Review 9/26/11
There are a ton of great "reviews" of this place on the unreliable sites, but every time I've tried to get something there have been no spots. The place is like a coffee shop in the hospital, and there are always cars all over the place. There are 2 dedicated spots for the store; today there was one available.
They were just closing but I just wanted a Gyro to go. Inside they have some tables and chairs and some display cases with various pastries; there's a lot of greek lettering so the initial thought is that is must be pretty greek. I asked for a [Yiro] with everything, sauce on the side. The women yelled to the cook "Gyro (as in Gyroscope) sauce on the side". So I was questioning the authenticity. They give it to you in a little thermal pouch to keep it warm, which is a nice touch.
The construction was good; nice thinly sliced onions, good pita bread and thinly sliced tomatoes. I opened the Tzatziki and it seemed way too runny; normally I have to dish it out with a fork, but this stuff was pourable. I tasted it and it tasted like plain yogurt with some cucumber. Not very good at all.
The Gyro meat was sort of crusty; like the meat on the spit hadn't been kept moist properly. It wasn't terrible but the old Greek guy back on Long Island would never serve this.
The place is cheap; $4.65 for a Gyro. Bring your own Tzatziki.
