The Automatic Slims club in downtown Fort Lauderdale closed its doors last month as the bad economy continues to turn the Riverfront area into a ghost town. The latest victim opened in 2002 after its initial location, in South Beach, became an instant success. Slim's ill-timed expansion into the Seminole Hard Rock Paradise left the Fort Lauderdale location without enough clientelle to remain open.
The self-proclaimed place where "the beautiful people come to get ugly" was popular with young clubbers, and were well-known for their bartenders in micro-mini skirts serving shots while walking on the bar. With Coyote Ugly and The Brick nearby, there just aren't enough customers for that sort of "Entertainment" in the current economy.
