Critic's Review
Dominos pummels us with ads and coupons and offers relentlessly, and I bit on the 1/2 off any pizza deal. My reasoning was that I've been paying $16 for bad pizza here in Fort Lauderdale, so why not see how Domino's is doing? I haven't ordered a Domino's pizza since 2007.
In order to use the coupon, you have to order online. I don't see why you'd order from Domino's any other way regardless. They have a very intuitive system where you can order half and tell them where to put in on the pie. They do NOT, however, have the prices for the various toppings. I have no idea what the breakdown was.
They also have no way for you to remove something from a special pizza. For example all of their "meat" special pizzas have ham on them, but there was no normal way to tell them not to put it on. So I built my own.
$8.90 was the total. You can't go wrong for $9, right?
I was going straight to Dominos, then a quick stop at Fresh Market to pick up 2 items and then home for lunch.
Most of Domino's business is delivery, so there's never a problem getting a parking spot here.
The pie was ready, so I just paid and I was out the door. Fresh Market was empty as usual (they're getting killed by Whole Foods / Amazon) and I was home in 10 minutes.
Nonetheless, the pizza was ice cold. I suspect that they flash cook it seconds after the order comes in so it was sitting there for 10 minutes before I picked it up.
I gave it the cold pizza test and it failed badly. You can't eat this thing cold. The Brooklyn pizza is a 12" pizza stretched to be 14". There's also not much sauce or cheese on the pizza.
I couldn't eat these cold, so I fired up the pizza stone and warmed them just to the point of melting the cheese.
The looked a lot better, but still tasted like junk. The pepperoni was so salty that I couldn't eat it. I usually love pepperoni; I suspect Dominos makes their own, and it's terrible. It's not as greasy as regular pepperoni. But it doesnt taste like pepperoni.
This pizza was a fail from head to toe. The crust wasn't very good; it was cooked properly and "foldable" as advertised, but it wasn't edible food.
Conclusion
As a company, Domino's is doing very well, and I can't help but wonder how.The pizza I got was worse than frozen supermarket pizza, so what's the point of buying it? Never again. Although I probably also said that back in 2007.
