Halloween is a Saturday this year, so all of the halloween festivities will be in real time. No parties a week before this year. What is means is that there will be a lot more people in costume on Saturday, rather than fewer people spattered about on whatever day they decided to celebrate.
It's a fun night out. No reason to stay in this year, even if you don't have a reservation.
Halloween 2015
The 2014 Halloween Block Party was last night, Saturday Oct 25th.
I went early and it was pretty lame; at 10pm there were very few people in serious costumes. There were a bunch of people breakdancing and the music was terrible. It was pretty unbearable.
There were a handful of people in costume; superheros seemed to be popular this year. No Breaking Bad Hazmat getups; I guess in deference to the Ebola thing.
I wasn't hanging around for 2 hours, so that's it for this year.

Today is officially Halloween, but last night was the big Halloween Party on 2nd Avenue. Its probably my favorite "block party" downtown, because its not nearly as crowded as New Year's Eve and there are always a lot of good costumes. Most costumes were pretty simple this year, and there were a lot of girls wearing almost nothing, which is all a guy can really ask for.
Those of us who've moved to Fort Lauderdale from up north appreciate Halloween down here a bit more because we're used to it being pretty cold at this time of year. But not last night. A beautiful, comfortable night with little wind, it was just a perfect night to hang out, listen to live rock and roll and watch all of the people and the costumes. It would have been a bit better if Tarpon Bend had put the World Series on before the 7th inning, but I digress.
They did the usual block party with a big stage in front of the tracks and the streets obviously closed to traffic. There were plenty of drink stations set up and there were virtually no lines for drinks. There were a lot of people; but not so many that it was uncomfortable. Of course I was gone by midnight, so I can't say what happened after that.
There's no sense describing the scene in words; I'll just let the pictures tell the story.
