Critic's Review
On a day trip to Delray Beach I was trying to decide where to have some lunch; Vic & Angelo's is on the shady side of the street, and it looked like a pretty cool place. They have some wacky chairs on the sidewalk and there were quite a few people here while other places where pretty empty. So I took a look at the menu and decided to try the eggplant parmesan. It's pretty nice inside, but on a beautiful day I wanted to sit outside.
They give you a personal chilled water bottle; the servers all wear orange crocs. It's a pretty colorful place. I ordered the eggplant parm appetizer for $9.95 and hoped it wasn't too small a portion. After a couple of minutes, a dude came but with a cutting board and some garlic bread topped with a lot of cheese.
It's pretty good bread; very crusty and very cheesy. I was envisioning sopping up some tomato sauce with this so I only had 1 slice before the eggplant was served.
I saw my server approaching with the dish and as she put it down in front of me I was immediately pleased with the portion. This is a pretty good deal for $10. with the bread.
And the eggplant was excellent. It's a very cheesy version of eggplant parm. There are layers of cheese and basil and very lightly breaded eggplant. I admit that I thoroughly enjoyed it and was a bit disappointed when it was all gone. But it was a big enough portion for lunch. Sopping up the last bits of garlicky sauce with the crusty bread is what it's all about.
I had to have a busboy fetch my server to get my check; and as I sat there with a cleared table and an empty glass, she said "They said you had a question for me?" Huh? How about my check, Babe?
The other servers handling tables around me seemed very attentive so I guess I just got a dud. Every restaurant has one.
