Critic's Review

Your typical hot dog joint; it's possible to eat in here but it's certainly no place to take someone you wanted to see again. There's a counter where you place your order and a window where you pick up the food. It's a bit messy; they're not trying to impress you with the decor here.

Hotdogopolis inside

I ordered a Chicago Dog and an Italian Beef Sandwich. The girl muttered something about the sandwich that I didn't quite understand; as it turns out the sandwich doesn't include onions or peppers or whatever else they put on it. There are no options on the menu so I didn't know what she was talking about. I just ordered it as it comes off the menu. It comes with an "authentic" Gonnella roll.

The hot dog was decent; nothing crazy good or bad about it. The beef sandwich wasn't all that interesting; I'd never had one of these and after a bit I decided it needed more stuff. I ended up grilling some onions and mushrooms for it and it was a lot better. The sandwich usually included peppers but I didn't have any. It would have been good if their menu clarified the options so I wouldn't have to interrogate the counterperson as to what she was talking about. If you're from Chicago you might have an easier time here than I did.

The fries were pretty good; but they serve them unsalted. They weren't crisp on the outside. I liked the similar fries from Boardwalk Fresh Burgers a little bit better than these.

They have a pizza oven in the back and pizza boxes stacked; it appears they'll be offering "thin crust chicago pizza" soon. They also have something on their board about late hours. There's no usable info on their facebook page or web site so it's all just a guess at this point.
