Critic's Review
I'd never been to this location before, and on Wednesdays they have a "Blackened Prime Rib" Sandwich for $5.99. I got charged $6.99 for the special at the Cordova Road location, so I was wondering if they were still doing it.
For some reason I thought that this location was relatively new; but this has the old style decor. A bar in the back, the wooden booths.
And, a very big fish tank. A lot of TVs, but they have that "high on the wall" issue.
They give you a menu with a lot of high priced stuff that I would never buy here, and they have some specials on a blackboard. No mention of the daily specials on their web site. If you don't know about them, they don't want you ordering them.
I ordered and Iced tea and the special. Drinks come in big plastic cups that you can take with you and use for a plant or something.
A couple of minutes go by; bad reception so I ask for the wireless password (Swordfish on Qdeck_24). A dude brings out the sandwich.
Man, this is 2 days in a row that I just can't believe what I see when I get my order. This is (or was) a prime rib?
The mac and cheese looked decent, which is just how it was. Not very cheesy tasting, overdone macaroni. But better than fries. My server came over and asked how it was. "Kind of well done" I said, picking up the bun to show her. "Yeah", she agreed. She offered me something else, but I said I'd just keep this.
Does this look like prime rib to you?
Frankly, the sandwich wasn't terrible. With the horseradish sauce and sitting between garlic bread, it really wasn't bad. Not what I expected, but I ate it.
So by now I'm thinking about the scathing review I'm going to write after they try to charge me $6.99 for this. I ask for the check and my server says "I took the sandwich off the bill for you". "Oh", I said, "It really wasn't as bad as it looked". She implied that it wasn't the first complaint of the day, so I just gave her something extra on the tip. Certainly a deal for $2.79. She also offered to fill up my cup and gave me a lid so I could have a drink on the ride home. They also only charged $5.99 for the sandwich, so they must have gotten the hint on that.
Conclusion
Here we have an example of a server who did the right thing and made what could have been a very unhappy customer feel like the place wasn't trying to rip him off. Of course you've seen the sandwich I got, so you may not want to risk your lunch hour here, I've gotten some REALLY bad stuff at my 4 visits to Quarterdecks, so I simply have to believe that it's no accident.
