Critic's Review
I've passed Kamado Buffet a few times, and wondered why I've never heard of it. They have no online presence, they're operating in the dark. While it's street address is Pembroke Pines, its just south of Sterling on University, so more like Davie to me.
A Kamado, as far as I can tell, is a type of grill, so I'm not sure how it applies to a seafood buffet. They have some paper mache rock formations in the foyer; where was a kid climbing on the fence when I walked in.
No official hostess, I waited for a while in the empty room. There's a bar also, but I've never seen anyone sitting at a bar in any of these places. They only have a 2COP so there's no liquor here.
Finally a dude came over and showed me to a table. There are 3 dining rooms separate from the buffet, so it's not like Kyojin where you may be sitting right in the room. Tranquil asian music plays. I don't really care about the decor at a buffet.
And the main event. 3 buffet tables, soup and ice cream stations and sushi and hibachi along the wall. As usual, the hibachi didn't get much use. I didn't see them fire it up once.
They have servers here, as is the copycat model; so you have to tip someone to get you a beverage. On the positive side, the chopsticks are on the table, so you don't have to track someone down to get them.
I made a first pass; got some hot and sour soup and a plate of hot food.
Green beans, chicken w/Broccoli, Pepper Steak and potstickers. The vegetables where fine, but the chicken was mushy and the beef was tough. I didn't like the filling in the dumplings; It tasted spoiled, but it may have just been some spice I didn't like. I passed on the dumplings.
The Hot and Sour soup was decent; not hot enough but it never is. I have to remember to bring white pepper with me when I come to these buffets.
Time for another run. I forget the extra lemon on the first run, so I grabbed a bunch for my tea.
Peel and eat shrimp, fried rice, skewered duck, basil chicken and Tso's chicken. The General Tso's was particularly good; the cocktail sauce needed more horseradish. Fried rice never tastes good on a buffet; the duck was meh.
Time for some sushi. Some rolls, a couple tuna nigiri and a piece of albacore. I don't eat the rice on the nigiri so it's sashimi to me.
Good quality fish, and the rolls were good also. The sushi is a plus.
Time for dessert. This is the first place that I can remember that didn't have red bean. I don't like the green tea, so I went with chocolate and pistachio. The pistachio seems too lime green to me, but it tasted good. They all use the same ice cream vendor most likely, so no surprises should be expected.
The real story here is the price. $8.25 for lunch. It's like $17 for dinner with not much difference in offerings, so lunch is the way to go.
Conclusion
Kamado's Buffet is a pretty typical buffet at a price where you can't go wrong for lunch. The hot food isn't very good, but they keep the buffets stocked and there was fresh food even at 2:45. An iced tea and a couple of pieces of sushi is worth the price.
