Critic's Review
Note that Manfra is no longer at Spoonfed.***
Glen Manfra's new SpoonFed is now open. That's the tagline. But who is Glen Manfra? Good question. He's worked here and there and if you've lived in Delray Beach your entire life you've probably heard of him. But to most of us, what we have is a new Restaurant on the corner of Atlantic and Railroad Ave.
The previous occupant of this space, the Atlantic Ocean Club, was an unmitigated disaster; Chef Jamie DeRosa left shortly after opening and the spiffy restaurant simply wasn't well-received. The summer brought us a Pop Up restaurant; a trial run so-to-speak for chef Glen Manfra. I guess it was successful enough (although summer traffic is always different than in-season); and SpoonFed was born.
What's somewhat unique about this place is that it's open at 6am for breakfast; you can't get an omelet at Vic and Angelo's. Breakfast prices are very reasonable for a restaurant; $9.99 for Steak and Eggs, although they don't commit to a cut or size for the steak.
The lunch menu is mostly sandwiches, salads and pizza; they only have 1 entree: chicken paillard. I decided to just get a bowl of their "caribbean" chowder, which includes Conch along with some other seafood bits.
I was warned that it was spicy; everyone always says that their chowder is spicy but it never is; this wasn't spicy at all. It could have passed for a minestrone; a lot of vegetables and little rock shrimp and conch bits; leaning towards bland. Not bad but not worth driving 25 miles for either.
I got a look at their dinner menu and there's a lot of good choices; pasta vongole, skirt steak, bronzini, along with burgers and pizza. It's certainly worth a more substantial look. For the time being, I can't do more than 3 stars for the soup.
We have the menus here.
