Critic's Review
Sal's is an italian chain restaurant that reminds me a bit of Carlucci's; they have 20 locations all through Southeast Florida. I usually don't order from places like this; but Sal's "look" like regular pizza joints, and I was hitting Zinger's across the street and it was pouring like crazy out, so I ordered a pie.
All I can say is, you know how you feel when you open a box and see your food and just say to yourself "Did I really just pay $14.89 for this?"
The skimpy 15 1/2" pie looked like something you might see on a tray in a mall, where you'd just walk away laughing and get yourself a pretzel. The cheese was burned in a way that suggests an oven that isn't the right temperature, and the amount of cheese was minimal. The lack of outer crust also suggest that this is a 14" pizza stretched out to try and make it a 16" pizza; they didn't quite make it.
Eating the pie was, as expected, disappointing. The pizza was in fact overdone and there was too much chewy crust for the thin layers of sauce and cheese sitting on top. The sausage would have been decent if it was on a decent pizza.
This is easily the worst pizza I've had in 5 years in South Florida. I wouldn't order a pizza from Carrabba's or Carlucci's, so why did I order this? I just don't have the answer.
