Fish Cheaters Exposed

There have been a lot of articles written about the recent Oceana study that claims that more than 30% of the fish in South Florida is mislabeled. I had a problem with the study because they wouldn't disclose the venues or the distribution of the results. The questions such is "is every restaurant doing it"? or "Can I trust the fish in the supermarket"? couldn't be answered, and those are the answers we want.

I investigated a bit, and I found that there is a voluntary random testing program that tests fish, and that most of the major centers in our area are members. Sysco is also a member of the voluntary testing lineup. So I concluded that it's not really that big a problem generally; it's probably just unsavory restaurant owners who are trying to rip people off. Such behavior is almost expected at "some" places.

Florida's records are all available to the public, so I compiled lists of all of the restaurants that have been caught by State inspectors selling food that is not what the restaurant is claiming.

Great info. I'm glad to see that most mainstream restaurants aren't on this list. I'm surprise that Cafe Seville is on it.
