Critic's Review
Carcione's closed in December; the phone number now goes to Dough Boys on SE 17th Street. They've re-opened on Davie Blvd just East of 95.

Carcione's Pizzeria is located in the Southland Shopping Center on Route 84. Its sort of a crusty part of town, where most of the patrons are workers from the nearby boat yards. Its pretty easy to drive right by this shopping center and never have any idea there was any food worth ordering here.
I thought about getting a pie here the other night, but figured I'd better get a slice first to try it out. When I walked into the place the first impression is that it smelled like a pizza place. Thats a good thing. Garlic in the air. They have one small table and a couple of stools and an area where you could eat a slice, but the place is really take-out only. I ordered a single slice and when it was ready then gave it to me in a box, which is always nice as opposed to a bag.
When I opened the box I thought they had made a mistake. This was one enormous slice. For $2.65 they give you a big slice from a 20" pie. As you can see, its a nice greasy slice. I have to admit that it was really good.
Subsequently, I picked up a whole pie at Carcione's to get the whole experience. When I opened the box, it looked pretty good.
But something was different. The crust was a bit mealy. While it tasted pretty good; it wasn't outstanding. Another mediocre pie in Fort Lauderdale. I KNOW that the crust was different on the slice. It was firm with just the right chewiness. Not a terrible pizza. But I'm not going out of my way again to come here. If they can't get it right consistently then its not worth it.
