Critic's Review

I'd heard through the grapevine that this place has really cleaned up their act; literally. I'd never gone in before because it was a smoker's bar; that is a bar that served food and I don't want to eat at smoky bars. I also don't want to watch football in a smoky bar. The seemed to have crossed over to the other side, with more emphasis on food; and no more smoking inside. So I thought I'd check it out.

From the outside, the place looks like nothing, which has also contributed to my never having been inside. When I opened the door, I was surprised; it's very clean and everything looks pretty new.

The guy that runs this place also runs Lucky's Tavern downtown, which is a place that I want to get out of shortly after walking in. So this was surprise. He's clearly a Packer's fan, as there are banners and cheese themed flags all over the place.

I grabbed a high top table; the ones by the wall have individual TVs. You can' t see the projection screen from where I was sitting, so it would come in handy if there was something on that I wanted to watch.

They have a fairly extensive menu with all of the pub favorites; I ordered an iced tea and a wedge salad. The tea is served in a big plastic cup; big enough that I didn't need a refill.

Music here surprisingly sucks rocks; with Kelly Clarkston, Christina Aguilera, Keisha and Fun providing a steady string of fist-pumping technocrap. I say surprisingly because the crowd seemed more rock and roll; it seems like the servers were the only ones in the place that would like this junk.

The salad came out very quickly; 5 minutes tops.

At first glance I thought it was short on dressing, but it was mostly in the plate. Plenty of blue cheese chunks, tomatoes and well-done bacon; fresh crisp lettuce. A very good salad for $7.95. This version had no onions, but if you like blue cheese you'll like this.

I'm not sure that this place gets my kind of crowd during sporting events, but considering the other choices in this part of town; Slacker's is a clean, comfortable place. I wouldn't mind checking out the wings and catching the games sometime.
